Tutor Kent Essex 11+ Tuition
What do our sessions look like?
Differentiated, personalised tutoring in small group sessions across Kent.
Fully qualified and experienced tutors.
11+ Mock Tests
Our Mock Exam Sessions take place during both the Easter and Summer holidays, providing children with valuable exam practice ahead of the real assessment.
Each mock exam is carefully designed to mirror the format and conditions of the actual exam. The sessions help to build your child’s confidence, familiarise them with the exam experience, and identify any gaps in their knowledge.
Following the mock exam, parents will receive a detailed written report outlining their child’s scores, areas of strength, and personalised next steps to support their ongoing preparation.
These sessions can be booked via our website at www.shealoweeducation.co.uk
11+ Preparation
If your child is planning to take the 11+ examination, we recommend introducing them to the content as early as possible. Early preparation allows children to build confidence, develop key skills, and become familiar with the style of questions they will encounter.
We offer two types of 11+ preparation sessions:
- Maths and English
- Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning
Both sessions are designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and exam techniques needed for children to achieve success in the 11+.
Our sessions will help children to:
- Make significant progress in their accuracy and problem-solving skills.
- Become familiar with the format and layout of the 11+ examination.
- Learn effective strategies for answering verbal and non-verbal reasoning questions.
- Consolidate their maths and English knowledge.
- Build confidence and develop effective exam techniques ahead of the test.
Each session follows a structured approach, combining the teaching of new skills with opportunities to practise and apply them through exam-style questions and activities.
Children attending our 11+ sessions will receive weekly homework to reinforce their learning. Completing this homework each week and bringing it to the following session is an essential part of their progress and preparation.
Primary English
Our Key Stage 2 English sessions are designed to support children of all abilities, whether they require additional support to build confidence and strengthen key skills or are high-achieving pupils looking to be challenged beyond the classroom curriculum. Every child learns differently, and our sessions are carefully planned to ensure each learner is supported, stretched and inspired to reach their full potential.
The curriculum focuses on developing the core literacy skills needed for success across Key Stage 2, including:
- Reading comprehension
- Writing
- Grammar
- Spelling
- Vocabulary development
- Punctuation
Children develop the skills to read confidently and critically, exploring a range of high-quality texts while learning how to interpret, infer and justify their answers using evidence. Writing lessons encourage creativity alongside the development of technical accuracy, enabling children to produce well-structured and engaging pieces across a variety of genres.
Grammar, spelling and punctuation are taught through meaningful activities that allow children to apply their knowledge within their own writing.
Children will receive a workbook to record their learning, completed activities and examples of their progress throughout the course. This provides a valuable record of their achievements and allows both children and parents to see the progress being made over time.
Primary Maths
Our Key Stage 2 Maths sessions are designed to support children of all abilities, whether they need additional help to build confidence and strengthen their understanding or are high-achieving pupils looking to deepen their mathematical thinking and challenge themselves beyond the classroom curriculum.
Our lessons follow the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum and focus on the core strands of mathematics, including:
- Number
- Calculation
- Fractions, decimals and percentages
- Measurement
- Geometry (shape and space)
- Statistics
Through engaging and carefully structured lessons, children develop a secure understanding of mathematical concepts before applying their knowledge to a range of reasoning and problem-solving activities. We encourage children to explain their thinking, justify their methods and explore different approaches, helping them to become confident and independent mathematicians.
For children who require additional support, our sessions reinforce classroom learning, address misconceptions and provide opportunities to revisit key concepts in a supportive environment. For more able mathematicians, lessons include extension tasks that encourage deeper thinking, challenge reasoning skills and promote mastery of mathematical concepts.
Where appropriate, children use a range of practical resources and manipulatives to develop a concrete understanding of mathematical concepts before moving on to pictorial and abstract methods. This approach helps children build confidence, improve accuracy and develop a deeper understanding of the mathematics they are learning.
